Description
This animal shelter, located approximately 300 yards south of Haggerston Castle, was likely used as an antelope shelter for the private zoo of Thomas Leyland. It dates from the late 19th century and features a timber frame with vertical boarding and a Welsh slate roof. The building is a single-storey structure with four bays. The second bay includes a round-arched entrance with a five-barred gate. There are three two-light windows, each with segmental heads, located under dormers that have bargeboards. The roof is gabled and adorned with ornamental cresting.
