Description
Haggerston Dovecote, located approximately a quarter of a mile west of Haggerston Castle, is a dovecote that likely dates back to the 17th century and underwent internal alterations in the 18th century. The structure is built from random rubble and is currently roofless, featuring a circular shape. There is a doorway on the east side, which has a chamfered alternating-block surround. Additionally, several small square openings, also with chamfered surrounds, can be found, although some of these are now blocked.
Inside, the dovecote is lined with brick nesting boxes. The potence remains, but aside from its central post, it is in poor repair. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
