Description
Nos 3 to 7 on Crown Street is a large shop and showroom building dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. It stands three storeys high and features seven bays of wide double sash windows that alternate with single ones, showcasing fancy leaded glazing in the upper sashes. The building is constructed of pale pinkish brick, accented with red brick quoins and dressings. Notable architectural details include gauged window arches with raised triple keys and moulded cill bands.
On the ground floor, there are three grand canted bay shop fronts with decorative glazing above and segmental arches at the front and sides. To the left, there is a yard entrance beneath a very wide elliptical arch. The entire ground floor, including the window arches, mullions, and panelled stallrisers, is finished in glazed tile. The building is supported by elaborate brackets that hold up a full-width canopy above a dentil cornice. It has a high pitched slated roof with end brick chimneys and a deep eaves soffit adorned with long, bracket-like modillions.
