Description
The Midland Bank, located at Prospect Place, is an early 20th-century commercial building designed in a modified baroque style. The main facade on Bondgate features two and a half storeys with four windows. It has a basement that curves around the corner into Northgate and is constructed of limestone ashlar. The roof is fairly low pitched and covered with slate, featuring a moulded eaves cornice.
At the second floor level, the main entablature projects forward over the second and fourth bays and is supported by engaged Corinthian columns located in the set back third and canted corner bays. The basement is banded and rusticated. The windows are framed in moulded architraves, with the first floor windows having ears, feet, and keystones, while the second and ground floor windows have raised centres, with the ground floor also featuring cornices and pediments. There is only one bay on Northgate, which is similar to the outer bay on Bondgate.
