Description
The Red Lion Hotel is an impressive 19th-century conversion of an 18th-century building located on Priestgate. It has two storeys and features four windows. The exterior is finished in stucco with incised lines and has a wood moulded and modillioned eaves cornice. On either side, there are full-height canted bays topped with hipped slated roofs that have lead ball finials. The windows have been replaced with sash windows, featuring stucco architraves in the center and wood in the side bays. The central public house front, dating from the late 19th century, includes short fluted pilasters resting on a tall tiled plinth, supporting an entablature with a pediment above the central door. There are stained glass windows present. To the left, there is a bay made of pinkish brick that rises three storeys, with a sash window on each floor, each having a stucco cill and lintel. The property also has an entrance to a stable yard.
