Description
The Golden Cock Public House is a late 18th century, three-storey building with a three-window front made of pinkish brick. It features a low-pitched slated roof with end chimneys. The first-floor sash windows, which are in flush box frames, have roughly gauged brick arches above them. On the left side, there is an elliptical arched entrance to the yard. The building has two canted bays with Doric columns that flank a six-panel door topped with a cornice head and an oblong fanlight, all set within a doorcase that has fluted pilasters and a frieze decorated with triglyphs and guttae. On the right side, an older rear wing is visible, constructed of large random rubble at the bottom and old brick above, likely dating from the 17th century. This wing has a pantiled roof and an old brick chimney, along with some modern concrete underpinning.
