Description

The Gift Shop and Market Tavern is an 18th-century, three-storey building featuring a total of six irregularly placed windows. The front is constructed of brick but has been covered with new roughcast, although the stepped and dentilled brick eaves cornice remains visible. The building has a high-pitched roof, now covered with slate, and is topped with end chimneys made of old brick. The replaced sash windows have flush wood architraves. The early 20th-century shop and public house fronts contribute to its character. The building is also notable for its prominent position. The circa 1800 return section is made of pinkish brick and has a low-pitched hipped slate roof, with gauged brick flat arches above the recessed sash windows.
