Description
No. 18, the northernmost bay of Woolworth's, features a Victorian classical facade made of high-quality ashlar stone. The building stands three storeys tall and has three windows. Above the modern ground floor shop's cornice, there is a giant Corinthian Order with engaged columns that divide the bays and are paired at the sides. The entablature includes a dentilled and modillioned cornice, topped with a balustraded parapet. The windows have moulded architraves, with round-headed windows on the first floor featuring floral keystones adorned with Roman heads on plinths. The flat windows above have fantastic beast masks on their keystones. The central windows are distinct, showcasing a simple roll moulding and a wreathed medallion on the first floor, which also displays wreaths above the side windows that are flanked by Ionic pilasters and impost blocks.
