Description

Bondgate Methodist Church is a handsome two-storey building constructed in 1812 by W. Sherwood. It features five bays on all sides and has a plaque in the pediment above the slightly projecting three-bay center of the entrance front that indicates the date of construction. The church is built of pinkish brick of small sizes, using half-headers in the bond, and includes a stone plinth, a first-floor band, a cornice, and a blocking course.

The round-headed windows are set in round-arched recesses and are mid-19th century casements with margin lights and roundels in their heads. The ground floor window heads are filled with stone panels featuring medallion decoration. The central entrance consists of a tall eight-panel double door, topped with a cornice head and a patterned radial fanlight, which is set in a stuccoed panel between simpler flanking doors. The entrance is surrounded by engaged Tuscan columns and an entablature. The returns of the building have similar fenestration.
