Description

No. 81 Bondgate is an early 19th-century building constructed of ashlar. It features an attractive façade that would have been particularly appealing when it was first built. The design is unique in Darlington, with some similarity to Harewood Grove. The building stands two storeys tall, with the lower storey displaying channelled beds and five windows, all of which are arched. Delicate pilasters with carved caps adorn the corners, topped by a wall-head entablature. The central doorway is framed by a porch supported by two detached Greek Ionic columns, which carry an entablature with a frieze decorated with Greek ornament.
