Description
The Britannia Public House is an early to mid-19th century building that has undergone some alterations. It stands two storeys tall and features four windows, constructed of painted brick. The roof is low pitched and slated, with rebuilt chimneys at both ends. The first floor has recessed sash windows with glazing bars, which are topped with gauged near-flat brick arches; the second window from the right has been blocked. The ground floor windows were renewed around 1900, and there are two doors also set under gauged brick arches. A plaque on the building notes that it is the birthplace of J M Dent, an eminent publisher, which is a significant reason for its listing.
