Description
No. 35 Bondgate is an impressive house from the mid to late 18th century that has undergone some alterations. It stands three storeys tall and features four windows, constructed of light red brick. The roof is pantiled with end chimneys, one of which is positioned behind the ridge, where the house is cut away at an acute angle. The building has a moulded wood eaves cornice and gauged flat brick arches above replaced sash windows, which are set in flush wood architraves.
On the first floor, there are two substantial late 19th-century square bay windows above a large early 20th-century double shop front. To the right, there is a door with four fielded panels and an oblong fanlight, framed by a doorcase with fluted pilasters and an entablature. At the rear, there is a late 18th-century wing that is two storeys high with two wide windows. The first-floor sash windows have gauged flat brick arches, with one window featuring glazing bars, all set in flush wood architraves. The ground floor openings at the rear have been altered. The rear elevation of the main house retains its original window arrangement on the second floor, shows slight changes on the first floor, and has been completely altered below.
