Description
Rokeby House, The Cottage, and Gable End are three houses with various 18th century dates, except for Rokeby House, which was added later. All the houses were refenestrated in the early 19th century. They are constructed of squared stone with tooled-and-margined lintels. Rokeby House features a graduated stone slate roof, while the other houses have 20th century concrete tiles. The buildings are two storeys high with a total of seven bays. The two-bay Rokeby House on the left is slightly taller than the others and has a four-panel door with a four-pane overlight; the other doors have been renewed. Most windows are 16-pane sash windows, except for one 20th century bow window. Old angle quoins on the front elevation indicate four stages of addition to an early 18th century two-bay original house. The building has end and four ridge stacks, and there is a 12-pane Yorkshire sash window on the right return.
At the rear, Rokeby House has a 1½-storey wing with three low fixed windows that are heavily barred, set in chamfered surrounds. The interior of Rokeby House was used as the Greta Bridge police station in the 19th century. In the rear wing, there are two cells with original doors and vertical-sliding iron shutters.
