Description

This field barn, located 700 metres east of Hunderthwaite Farmhouse, dates back to 1822, as indicated on its keystone. It is constructed of squared rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone-flagged roof.

The barn is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with flush alternating quoins. There is a pair of boarded doors positioned to the left of centre, set within an elliptical-arched, flush surround that includes tooled voussoirs, impost blocks, and jambs. The raised keystone of the archway is inscribed with "W. Bayles 1822." The left bay contains two small breathers, while the right bay features a Dutch door and a first-floor opening, both in flush, tooled surrounds. The gabled returns have small breathers arranged in a triangular pattern. Additionally, the right gable displays pigeon holes and ledges, also arranged in a triangular pattern. The roof is finished with coped gables.

This barn is noted for being a rare example of an unaltered field barn.
