Description

Ivyholme Cottage, Ivyholme Stores (including Post Office), and Fell Cottage are a group of three houses built in the early 19th century, with some alterations. They are constructed from squared sandstone rubble and feature a stone-flagged roof and stone chimney stacks, arranged in an L-plan layout.

The buildings are two stories high with a five-bay front. Ivyholme Cottage, on the left, has two replaced glazed doors (one in a 20th-century glazed porch) and two four-pane sash windows, although the glazing bars have been removed. There is an identical sash window above with a replaced casement to the left. Ivyholme Stores, on the right, has a central replaced door with an overlight, a 20th-century shop window to the left, and a replaced four-pane sash to the right. Above, there are three identical sashes with lintels that have slightly-segmental undersides. The roof features paired stone gutter brackets and is hipped with two corniced ridge stacks.

On the right return, which includes the ground-floor left bay of Ivyholme Stores, there is a partly-glazed four-panel door in a 20th-century glazed porch, flanked by replaced four-pane sashes. Above, there are three identical sashes with slightly-segmental undersides. The roof is hipped to the left and has a coped right gable with a shaped kneeler, along with corniced ridge and right end stacks.

A set-back wing to the right of Fell Cottage is noted but is not of special interest.
