Description
Ivy Cottage and Post Office is a row of three cottages, now two, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features limewashed and part rendered rubble with a tarred plinth band and a low pitched slate roof. It is two storeys high, with the ground floor having six windows, mostly 2-light casements, some of which include glazing bars. In the fourth bay, there is a 4-light casement that likely replaced a former doorway, and on the extreme right, there is a small shop window. Between the first and second cottages, there is a 20th-century door with a segmental head and voussoirs, while to the left of the shop window, there is a 19th-century plank door with a glazed panel, sheltered by a 20th-century pent roof on posts. The first floor contains five windows, with 2-light windows on the left and 3-light windows on the right. There are four large rendered rubble stacks, raised in brick; one is partly external to the gable on the right, featuring a sash window low on the left. The rear of the building has various extensions, including a single-storey extension to the right that is not of special interest. This modest terrace is significant to the village centre and is located next to the end of Cross Manor.
