Description
Ivy Cottage and Sturmey Cottage form a semi-detached pair of cottages, likely dating from the late 18th century. They have plaster walls on a stone base, and are colourwashed, with thatched roofs and brick stacks. Ivy Cottage is two storeys high, with a single-storey lean-to on the south side with a catslide roof, partially thatched and partially tiled. A modern, part-glazed ledged door is set within a timber porch with a slate roof. A similar door is located at the south end of the lean-to. Both ground and first floors have two horizontally sliding sash windows with a central glazing bar. There's one casement window at a mezzanine level on the south end. The main ground floor room originally contained a large open fireplace with a timber lintel; this opening has been built up, but a doorway in the wing wall provides access to the interior. Sturmey Cottage is a single-storey building with attics and has a similar single-storey extension on the north side, with a slightly lower roofline. A modern panelled door is in a timber porch with a slate roof. The ground floor features one horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars, and one casement window, also with glazing bars. Both cottages have single-storey outbuildings at the rear. These have brick walls, corrugated asbestos roofs, and brick stacks, and were likely used as wash-houses.
