Description

Gingerbread Cottage is a semi-detached pair of cottages, likely built in the 18th century. No. 57 features plastered cob walls and a thatched roof, with a brick stack shared with No. 58. The cottages are one storey with attics. No. 57 has a stable door and the ground floor includes two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars. The attic has two dormers with similar sash windows. Inside, the main room on the ground floor has a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and remnants of a bread oven, along with some exposed ceiling beams.

No. 58 has walls made of stone, brick, and cob on a stone base, also topped with a thatched roof and sharing a brick stack with No. 57. It is similarly one storey with attics and features a single-storey flat-roofed extension at the rear, along with a modern glazed door. The ground floor has two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars, and the attic has two dormers with similar sashes. The interior of No. 58 has been modernised.
