Description

Probably dating from the 18th century, the Rowantree was originally two cottages, now No. 60. It is a house with an attached barn to the east. The house has walls of cob, rendered and colourwashed, over a stone base, and a thatched roof, with brick stacks. It is one storey tall with attics. A modern porch with a tiled lean-to roof has been added. The front of the house has five metal casement windows with glazing bars, and four half-dormers with horizontally sliding sash windows featuring a centre glazing bar. The attached barn has an unglazed window on its upper floor. A single-storey, attic-style rear extension uses brick and stone walls and a thatched roof. Modern, flat-roofed extensions have been added to the south and west. Inside, one ground floor room retains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven. Another room has a similar fireplace, which has been partially built up.
