Description
Nether Barn is a field barn dated 1781, constructed from coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, throughstones, stone slates, and concrete tiles. The southwest elevation features two storeys and five bays, with a projecting offshut at the northwest end. A tall central doorway has a quoined surround and a massive lintel. There are four additional doorways: three to the right of the central door, one of which has a segmental arch above it, and a doorway to the offshut with a chamfered quoined surround and heavy lintel. The openings have plain planked doors, and there is a single taking-in door to the first floor, along with ventilation slits in the offshut. A blocked doorway on the northeast elevation has a quoined surround and a crude semi-circular headed lintel, inscribed with '1781'. The roof is a double purlin design, supported by king post trusses.
