Description
The Old Schoolroom, located to the north-east of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Mary, is a building from the mid-19th century that adapted an earlier structure from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and features a stone slate roof, except for the left part which has pantiles with stone slates at the eaves and a white brick end stack.
The building is single-storey and consists of five bays. The central three bays contain 16-pane sash windows with timber lintels and show traces of earlier openings. The lower bay on the left has a 9-pane Yorkshire sash window and the left end stack, while the lower bay on the right has a small window and steps leading up to a boarded door on the right side.
The Old Schoolroom was used as a schoolroom until 1936 and is included for its group value with the nearby church.
