Description

The presbytery to the Roman Catholic Church of St. Mary, originally a farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century and was refronted in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of squared stone with 19th-century ashlar dressings, while the rear wing features roughly-squared stone with cut dressings. The building has a 20th-century concrete tile roof, except for the stone slabs on the porch, and is laid out in a T-plan.

The south elevation is two storeys high and has three bays. It features a plinth, with the centre bay showcasing a steeply-gabled porch that has a pointed arch, flanking buttresses, and a finial cross, along with a single-light window above. To the left, there is a canted bay window with a moulded cornice and a 2-light window above it; to the right, there are two 2-light windows. All windows are plain sashes set in chamfered surrounds. The gables are coped on moulded kneelers, and there are stepped-and-corniced end stacks. To the left, a single-storey, one-bay link connects to the church, featuring paired lancet windows and a string course below an embattled parapet with pierced merlons, along with a single lancet window on the left return.

The west elevation of the rear wing displays four windows with false flat-arched lintels, including two 12-pane Yorkshire sashes, a 9-pane fixed casement, and a 4-pane sash, with the ground-floor Yorkshire sash positioned under a segmental head.

Inside, the front block is primarily mid-19th century, featuring a carved open-well closed-string stair. The rear wing includes 2- and 3-panel doors on H hinges and a stone stair with splat balusters.
