Description
The linked farm buildings to the left of High Birk Farmhouse are a group of structures dating from the early and late 19th century. They are constructed from squared rubble with stone-flagged roofs. The complex includes an early 19th-century byre positioned at right angles to the left bay of the farmhouse, an early 19th-century barn to the left of the byre, and a late 19th-century byre angled to the left end of the barn.
The tall single-storey, four-bay byre attached to the farmhouse features flush quoins. Its gabled front has a Dutch door set in a flush surround, along with a partly-glazed hit-and-miss window to the right. The right side of the byre has altered openings and some blocked breathers, while the roof is adorned with coped gables.
To the left, the two-storey, six-bay barn also has flush quoins. It contains openings in flush surrounds, including two boarded doors on the left and a boarded opening on the right. The barn has a moderately-pitched roof.
The single-storey, three-bay byre features flush quoins as well. It has a Dutch door in a 20th-century opening, flanked by partly-glazed hit-and-miss windows in the center bay. The end bays also have Dutch doors with fixed lights beside them. This byre has a low-pitched roof.
These farm buildings are included for their group value.
