Description
Mere Beck Farmhouse, byre, and pigsty are located in Cotherstone, Baldersdale. The farmhouse is dated 1742 on the door lintel, while the farm buildings date from the early to mid-19th century. The structures are built from squared rubble, with the farmhouse and pigsty featuring stone-flagged roofs, and the byre having a blue slate roof along with stone chimney stacks. The farmhouse, which has a rear outshut, is attached to the byre and pigsty on the right.
The farmhouse is a two-storey, irregular three-bay building with a tall plinth and flush quoins. It has a central replaced partly-glazed door set in a flush surround with thin alternating jambs, and the lintel is inscribed with "17 IP 42." Above the door is a blank bay, with flanking 16-pane sash windows that have flush sills and lintels. The roof features corniced end stacks with water tables.
The byre is a set-back two-storey, narrow two-bay structure with a loft, featuring a boarded door and a square window opening to the left, along with a 20th-century eight-pane fixed light above. The single-storey, two-bay pigsty attached to the right has two boarded doors and a feeding chute to the right, with a monopitch roof over the lower rear wall.
At the rear of the right return of the byre, there is an external stone stairway leading to a first-floor boarded door. There are also derelict, detached buildings to the left of the farmhouse, which are not of special interest.
