Description

West Wood Farmhouse is a farmhouse located on the north side of the B6276 in Lunedale. The right section of the building dates from the 18th century and has undergone later alterations, while the left section is dated 1811 on the door lintel. The right section is constructed of rubble with a stone-flagged roof, and the left section is made of coursed rubble, also with a stone-flagged roof. The farmhouse features stone chimney stacks.

The right section is two stories high with three bays and has flush quoins on the right side. It has a central four-panel door with a five-pane overlight in a flush surround. Above the doorway is a blank bay, with flanking replaced casements that have flush lintels and projecting chamfered sills. The roof is low-pitched, and there are end stacks with top bands and water tables.

The left section is a lower two-story building with two bays. The left bay, which was formerly a stable, has a boarded door with flush jambs and a rough stone hood. There is a central replaced casement and a boarded door to the right, which has a lintel inscribed with "T.B A 1811." Above this door are two replaced casements. The roof has a coped left gable, and the left end stack has been rebuilt with a top band and water table.

On the left return, there is a nine-pane sash window in front of a blocked fire window. At the rear, there is a continuous one-storey outshut made up of two builds.

The farmhouse is included for its group value with the byre-house and barn.
