Description

Middleton Bridge is a bridge located in Middleton in Teesdale, dating from around 1814, with alterations made around 1980. It is constructed from irregular courses of sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings. The bridge has a wide, high segmental arch with recessed voussoirs, which is flanked by two graduated flood circles on each side that are now blocked, situated under a band at road-bed level. The round-coped parapets have been renewed on their inner faces using rock-faced stone. The lower part of the abutments is supported by large, wide buttresses, which have been largely renewed. The bridge is partly located in Holwick Civil Parish, County Durham.
