Description

The building is a community centre that was originally a school, constructed in 1861 for the London Lead Company. It is made of roughly-dressed coarse sandstone, featuring an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings. The roof is covered with two colors of graduated slates and has stone gable copings.

The structure is one storey high and consists of five bays, with a central projecting bay under a gable. There are set-back one-storey, one-bay porch extensions on both the left and right sides. The pointed-arched boarded doors, which have strap hinges, are located under a gabled hood supported by head-stopped brackets. The central gabled section has a four-light window beneath a relieving arch, while the other bays contain three-light windows with stone mullions and transoms. These windows feature alternate-block jambs and drainage holes in their sloping sills, all set under relieving arches.

The building also has diagonal buttresses and a steeply-gabled bell cote to the left of the front gable. The returns of the building include a large roundel with geometric tracery, with the roundel on the right return being blocked. This is flanked by small two-centred-arched openings. A scrolled wrought-iron finial adorns the bell cote, and the steeply-pitched roofs have overlapping gable copings.
