Description

The Rectory is a 19th-century house, dated 1829, built for Rev. J.H. Brown. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with stone quoins and ashlar dressings, and has a roof of graduated Lakeland slate with grey ridge tiles. The main block is two storeys high, with three bays, and a two-storey, one-bay set-back extension to the left. The central entrance has a six-panel door and a three-pane overlight, set within a stone surround with impost blocks and a panelled lintel displaying the date. Other windows are sashes with glazing bars, featuring flat stone lintels and slightly-projecting stone sills. The set-back extension has sixteen-pane sashes and quoins, and may incorporate elements of an earlier building on the site. End chimneys are present on the main roof. The rear elevation is notable for a round-headed stair window with glazing bars.
