Description

The Market Cross in Middleton in Teesdale is a structure of uncertain date, likely from the early 18th century. It is made of millstone grit and features wrought-iron leg clamps along with a bronze sundial attached to it. The cross stands on three square steps, with the lowest step having an iron band that includes four indentations and a central loop. Supporting the cross is a single column approximately one meter high, which has a chamfered base. At the top, there is a sundial that dates from the 19th or 20th century.
