Description

Three headstones, dating from 1716 to 1757, are located to the south-west of the Church of St. Mary in Middleton in Teesdale. They commemorate members of the Lee and Watson families and are made of sandstone ashlar.

The first headstone is a moulded slab approximately 0.6 metres high with a segmental head, dedicated to Adah Lee, the wife of Arther. The second is a moulded slab about 0.7 metres high, featuring a low-relief heart set between scrolls of a pediment, dedicated to Arther Lee. The third headstone is an anvil-shaped block, around 0.3 metres high, with the incised initials IL1716 and PL1717, along with the name Ann Wat/son and the year 1742 on top.
