Description
No. 4 Front Street is a house and shop dating from the third quarter of the 18th century, with a late 19th-century shopfront. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a pantiled roof, stone gable copings, and stone and brick chimneys. It has three storeys and includes one window on the upper floors. To the right, there is a boarded door with an overlight set in a plain stone surround. To the left of centre is a half-glazed shop door, flanked by six-pane shop windows, all beneath a fascia supported by narrow pilasters. The first floor has a wide casement window with a projecting stone sill and a five-pane top light at the centre, while the top floor features a wide sash window with five over five panes. The roof is detailed with a cyma-moulded left kneeler and a banded chimney at the left end. This building is included for its group value.
