Description
This outbuilding, located 20 metres west of The Grove in Lartington, is a Grade II listed structure dating from the early to mid-19th century and consists of two sections. The left section is built from coursed sandstone rubble, featuring a stone-flagged roof and brick chimney stacks. The right section is constructed from squared sandstone with a Welsh slate roof.
The building is two storeys high and has four bays on the left and two bays on the right. It displays flush, alternating quoins at the ends and at the junction of the two sections. The left section includes segmental archways in bays two and three, with replaced boarded doors in bays one and four, all set in flush surrounds with top blocks. Above, there is a boarded opening and three four-pane sash windows. The right section features a boarded door in a chamfered surround, and an external stone stairway on the right leads to a replaced door. The roof is continuous, with coped gables, shaped kneelers, and a coping at the junction, along with stacks at the left end and ridge.
Inside, the first-floor room of the right section was used as a Methodist Chapel during the 19th and early 20th centuries and retains a panelled wood ceiling. This building is included for its group value and social interest.
