Description
This building, located at 1 Office Square, is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble, featuring some quoins and ashlar dressings. The roof has been renewed with pantiles and includes three rows of stone slates at the eaves, along with stone gable copings and chimneys made from rubble and renewed brick.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays. There are three steps leading up to a four-panel door with an overlight. Above the door is a wide painted lintel, and to the left is a late 19th-century sash window. The second bay also contains similar sash windows, all of which have projecting stone sills. The lower window in the second bay features a shallow painted lintel, while the other bays are blank.
The steeply-pitched roof is adorned with cyma-recta-moulded kneelers and has chimneys at both ends. On the rear elevation, there is a blocked door in the third bay, which is covered by a soldier-course brick lintel. The other bays at the back have late 19th-century sash windows that are almost flush with the wall face.
