Description
Stangarth is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with joints obscured by pointing, featuring ashlar dressings, a plinth, and quoins. The roof is primarily pantiled, with stone slates at the eaves, except for the front slope, which is covered in asbestos tiles. The house has both ashlar and brick chimneys.
The building has an L-plan and is two stories high. The one-bay elevation facing the street includes a ground-floor bow window with curved sashes and glazing bars, topped with a cornice and flat roof. To the right on the first floor, there is an inserted sash window with glazing bars, which has a flat stone lintel and a projecting stone sill. The roof is hipped and features a front banded ashlar chimney, along with similar chimneys on the ridge and at the rear.
The right return of the house has four bays and a gabled lower projecting bay on the right. In the second bay, there is a six-panel door with a three-pane overlight, all set in a plain stone surround. The sashes with glazing bars have thin stone lintels and projecting stone sills, while the fixed lights with glazing bars in the gabled wing have been renewed at the lower level.
