Description

This milestone, dating from the 19th century, is located 40 metres west of West Whorley Hill Farmhouse. It is made of sandstone and has been painted white. The stone is square in plan and stands approximately 0.5 metres high, featuring a rounded top. On the north-west face, there is an incised sans-serif inscription painted in black that reads "D 12" (indicating 12 miles to Darlington), while the north-east face displays "BC 4" (indicating 4 miles to Barnard Castle).
