Description

The Conifers is a terrace of three houses located on The Green in Whorlton. Number 3 dates to the mid-18th century, with an upper storey added in the early to mid-19th century; numbers 1 and 2 were built in the early to mid-19th century. The ground floor of number 3 is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble, while numbers 1 and 2, and the upper storey of number 3, are of dressed sandstone. The roofs are pantiled, with a double course of sandstone flags at the eaves, and feature ashlar stacks. Dressed quoins are also present. The terrace has two storeys and six windows in all. A 20th-century door is located in the second bay from the left of the terrace, and a pair of 20th-century doors are in the second bay from the right. The windows are 4-pane sashes and 16-pane horizontal-sliding sashes, all with flat surrounds. The steeply-pitched roof has slightly projecting eaves, coped gables with shaped kneelers, and two end and two ridge corniced stacks. Two late 20th-century gabled wings to the rear are not considered to be of special interest.
