Description
The Croft is a house dating from the late 17th century, with significant alterations made in the mid 19th century. It is constructed from roughly-dressed sandstone and features large quoins. The roof is pantiled, with a double row of sandstone flags at the eaves, and there are hand-made brick and stone stacks. The door and window openings were modified in the mid 19th century.
The building has a two-storey, four-bay front with a central 20th-century glazed door set in a tooled flat surround, flanked by 9-pane sash windows with raised sills. The left bay is obscured by a late 20th-century gabled garage. On the first floor, there is a blank central bay, two 4-pane sashes to the right, and a blocked window to the left. The ground floor of the right return features a blocked 3-light mullioned window, while the first floor has a similar 3-light window with chamfered mullions and latticed casements. The moderately-pitched roof has moulded gable copings with shaped kneelers, swept eaves, a brick ridge stack, and a corniced chimney at the right end.
An attached garage is located on the left, and there is a single-storey addition at the rear of the rebuilt left return, which is not of special interest.
