Description

This milestone, dating from the 19th century, is located 110 metres south of Greystone Hall in Gainford. It is made of sandstone and painted white. The stone has a single, square plan and stands approximately 0.3 metres high with a rounded top. On the north-east face, it features incised sans-serif letters painted black that read "BC 9" for Barnard Castle, while the north-west face displays "D 7" for Darlington.
