10/56 Cowclose House and adjacent byre

House and attached byre. Dated 1697 with initials I.L. on door lintel: altered and reroofed in early C19. Rubble with large cut quoins and dressings; graduated stone slate roof.

1-storey, in 2 sections: left part is 2-bay house with centre boarded door in moulded surround with dated lintel. Flanking stone-surround windows, lost carpentry, with slightly-projecting sills. To right is 2-bay byre: left bay behind added outbuilding, right bay with stable door and boarded door in heavy block surrounds.

Boarded door in similar surround at rear of byre; slit vent and blocked opening under timber lintel.

Interior of house retains fireplace with chamfered basket arch holding C19 ironwork.

Empty and in poor condition at time of survey.

Later outbuilding on east, now roofless, is not of special interest.
