Description
Castle Farmhouse and the attached byre with loft to the left are 18th-century structures with two builds and 19th-century additions and alterations. The farmhouse features coursed sandstone rubble, a stone-flagged roof, and stone chimneys, while the farmbuilding has a corrugated-asbestos roof.
The two-storey, four-bay farmhouse has a low plinth and alternating quoins. There is a replaced door in a projecting, chamfered surround between the third and fourth bays, flanked by replaced four-pane sash windows in projecting surrounds with raised keystones. Identical sashes are found in flush square surrounds to the left. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with end and ridge stacks that have top bands. At the rear, there is an eight-pane stair window with a segmental head and two single-storey outshuts.
The byre with loft is two storeys and has two bays. It features a boarded door in a surround with alternating jambs, an external stone stair to the left, a replaced casement to the right, a boarded door, and a square opening above. The roof has replaced coping on the left gable.
