Description
The building is a cow byre dated 1675, originally a house, located in Carlton Highdale. It has undergone later alterations and is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of four bays, featuring quoins. On the right side, there is a board stable door set in a quoined ashlar surround, which has a moulded arris and a triangular soffit to the lintel. The lintel also has recessed panels with raised characters that read "WH 1675." On the left side, there are remnants of double-chamfered mullion window surrounds, although these have been significantly altered, with 19th-century openings added due to its conversion for agricultural use. The first floor has blocked openings and a line of lower eaves, topped with slab coping.
