Description
The cow house at Arkleside Farm, dated 1684, has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and consists of two storeys, featuring one first-floor window facing the road. The building has quoins and to the left, there is a board stable door set in an ashlar quoined surround with a moulded arris. Above the door, there is a semicircular panel on the lintel displaying the date, flanked by panels with the letters "TH" and "IH". A hoodmould with decorative motifs is present on the stops. Above the door, there is a single-light opening. In the centre, there is a later doorway, and to its right, a blocked single-light chamfered opening. To the right of this is a 2-light double-chamfered mullion window. On the rear side, the ground floor features, from left to right: a 3-light double-chamfered mullion window, a 4-light double-chamfered mullion window, and a round-arched fire window. There are no openings on the first floor at the rear.
