Description

The former Methodist Chapel, dated 1815, has been converted into a house around 1980. It is constructed of coursed rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and tooled ashlar dressings, topped with a stone slate roof. The building features a gabled front facing the street. A set of railings with foliate heads and moulded standards, along with similar double gates, encloses a double flight of steps leading up to central panelled double doors set beneath a pointed arch. Above the doors is a moulded tablet inscribed with 'WESLEYAN METHODIST CHAPEL' and the date, flanked by tall lancet windows that have been fitted with renewed glazing. All openings are framed in raised chamfered surrounds. The gable is coped and supported by moulded kneelers, with a small round opening at the apex. Each side of the building features two 2-light windows with wooden Y-tracery, and there are several blocked openings on the right side. A small stack is located at the apex of the rear gable.

The interior has been altered. It is noted that the building may have originally been a barn before its conversion to a chapel, although the architectural features may suggest mid-19th century remodelling of the original 1815 chapel, as indicated by the datestone.
