Description
Gillbeck House is a house dated 1746, marked with the initials RM, and altered in the early 20th century. It is constructed of tooled-and-margined stone of near-ashlar quality, with tooled ashlar dressings. The roof is covered with hardrow tiles from the 20th century and features stacks made of rough-faced stone. The building has two storeys plus attics and consists of two bays. It has rusticated quoins and a central half-glazed door that has been renewed, set within a shouldered architrave featuring a pulvinated frieze and cornice, with a datestone above. The windows are 4-pane sash types set in architraves. The roof is tall and steeply pitched, with two flat-topped dormers, each containing paired 4-pane sashes. There is a projecting corniced stack on the right side of the roof slope and a smaller corniced stack at the left end of the ridge. The rear elevation features a central arched stair window, which is a 12-pane sash with intersecting glazing bars, set in a stone surround with imposts and a keystone. Additionally, there are two early 20th-century roof dormers, similar to those at the front.
