Description

The Yews is an 18th-century house, originally a stable block for Gillbeck House, which has been significantly altered in the early 20th century. The left part of the building is rendered and colourwashed, while the right part is constructed of squared stone with tooled dressings, both with 20th-century hardrow tile roofs. The south elevation is divided into two sections. The left part is two storeys and two bays, featuring a central window on the ground floor and 12-pane sash windows in raised stone surrounds. Corniced end stacks are present. Set back to the right is a single-storey, two-bay portion with a parapet front. A flat-topped porch on the left of the left bay has a 6-panel door beneath a radial fanlight, set within a stone surround with imposts and a keystone. A similar 20th-century glazed door, with a matching fanlight and surround, is located on the right of the right bay, alongside similar windows. The building is included on the listing for its group value.
