Description
Church View is a house dated 1719 for GCI, located on Front Street in Staindrop. It is constructed from thinly rendered sandstone rubble with a boulder plinth, irregular quoins, and painted ashlar dressings. The roof is pantiled, featuring two rows of stone flags at the eaves, a stone ridge, and renewed brick chimneys with a rendered plinth on the right. The building has two storeys and four bays, with the fourth bay being wider.
The entrance is a renewed six-panel door set in a cyma-moulded stone surround with a dated lintel, located in the third bay. To the left, there is a wide canted bay window with late 19th-century sashes and a flat roof. The renewed sashes on the right and on the first floor have flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The steeply-pitched roof features corniced end chimneys, with the right chimney square in plan. At the rear, there is a one-storey wing that includes a tall brick chimney on the rear gable.
