Description

The former King’s Arms Inn, now two houses, dates from the early 19th century and was altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a right return of coursed squared sandstone and ashlar dressings. The roof is slate and asbestos-tiled, with stone gable copings and stone and rendered chimneys.

The building is two storeys and five bays, with No. 26, the former public house, occupying the left-hand three bays. No. 26 has steps leading to a renewed central door set in an ogee-headed panelled surround, flanked by inserted three-light transomed windows with concrete lintels. No. 24, to the right, features a renewed six-panel door in the fourth bay, under a patterned fanlight within a keyed round-headed surround. The wedge stone lintels above the first-floor windows of No. 26 are cut to resemble voussoirs, while those above the renewed sashes of No. 24 are rendered over. The roof has three corniced ridge chimneys and moulded kneelers. The right return to a lane shows a renewed first-floor window in plain stone surround and a small attic window.
