Description

Westernhopeburn West Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with adjoining outbuildings, now used as a garage, located in Eastgate. The building is dated 1606 on a lintel and features grey rubble with ashlar dressings and a stone-flagged roof with stone gable coping. It is designed in an L-plan and consists of two low storeys. The farmhouse has six bays, while the byre has one bay.

To the right of the fourth bay, there is a 20th-century door set in a chamfered surround with broach stops, and the lintel is inscribed with "C E 1606." The windows are three-light stone-mullioned types, with the ground floor window at the right end being a later insertion. These windows have glazing bars, chamfered surrounds, and label moulds, while there is a single blocked light on the first floor in the right end bay.

The byre, now a garage, features a wide concrete lintel above the vehicle doors, a first-floor boarded door at the right in a plain stone surround, and two vent slits on the left. The roof has left gable coping on moulded kneelers and three square ridge chimneys on the house. The left return includes a rear wing that is two storeys high and has three bays, with three ground-floor windows that have plain stone surrounds, along with a first-floor boarded loft door.
