Description
Lochhouses is a farmhouse dating from around 1820, featuring two storeys and a symmetrical three-bay design, with a single-storey gabled wing projecting at the rear, forming an L-plan. The building is constructed of rubble whinstone with rubble sandstone on the northern elevations, complemented by grey ashlar dressings.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there are centre two-leaf panelled doors, which lead to a panelled inner door and a decorative fanlight above. Tall windows flank the entrance, with slightly smaller windows located under the eaves of each first-floor bay.
The north (rear) elevation includes a stair window at the centre, with the single-storey wing projecting to the right. This wing has late 19th-century bipartite dormers added, and modern windows have been inserted on the northern side. A lean-to byre forms a courtyard alongside the L-plan house, extending from the north to the east.
On the west gable, there are two windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor at the rear. A conservatory has also been added to this side. The east gable features windows similar to those on the west gable. The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the bipartite dormers have 4-pane glazing. The building is topped with ashlar gable end stacks, retaining their original cans, and is covered with grey slates.
