Description
Ordaal is a traditional farmhouse dating from around 1800, featuring two storeys and three bays, with a single-storey wing at the rear that forms an L-shape. The walls are constructed from harl-pointed rubble, and the windows have projecting cills.
The west elevation is symmetrical, with a single-storey gabled entrance porch at the center. The flanking bays and the first floor have regular window arrangements.
On the south gable, there is a single window at ground level on the outer left.
The east elevation is asymmetrical with four bays; it has a window at ground level and a smaller window at the first floor in the bay to the left of center. The outer left bay features regular fenestration, while the bay to the right of center contains a stair window. This elevation is partially obscured by the gabled single-storey wing, which has a three-bay regularly fenestrated north elevation and a modern lean-to on the south side.
The entrance porch has four-pane timber fixed-lights, while modern glazing is used elsewhere. The principal roof pitches are covered with purple-grey slate, and there are stugged sandstone stacks on the gables of both the house and the wing, all topped with circular cans. The east elevation features a two-flue wallhead stack with red cans.
Adjacent to the east of the house is a gabled outbuilding with random rubble walls and a partially collapsed stone slab roof. There is also a random rubble garden wall adjoining the outbuilding, which encloses the garden to the east of the house.
